Conditioned Place Aversion

Description: In general, this procedure involves several trials where the mousel is presented with a negative stimulus (e.g. illness or withdrawal from morphine dependence), paired with placement into a distinct environment containing various cues (e.g. tactile, visual, and/or olfactory). When later tested in the normal state, withdrawals and the amount of time spent avoiding the environment previously associated with the stimulus can be used as an indicator of aversion and a measure of reward learning.

Purpose: Conditioned Place Aversion is a commonly used technique to evaluate aversions for specific enviroment that has been associated with a negative reward.
