Taste Memory (Gustatory Neophobia)

Description: Mice are given a liquid and after achieving a consistent level of consumption the mice are presented with a novel flavored (coffee) liquid diet during the scheduled feeding period (test). Mice are put back on the non-flavored liquid diet until stable consumption, and re-presented with the coffee. This procedure is repeated over several coffee presentations (tests). The volume of the coffee solution that is consumed in these presentations represents the degree of taste memory for the solution.

Purpose: The gustatory neophobia test is a simple test of memory deficits that determines changes in consummatory behavior of novel liquid solutions.
